Our vision & mission
A future where every person facing cancer in The Netherlands receives care that is inclusive, empathetic and compassionate — shaped by their individual needs, regardless of background.
To ensure there is human connection at the heart of every cancer journey.
From our founder
I'm proud to be part of a movement that provides compassionate, culturally sensitive support and advocates for a healthcare system where everyone receives the care they deserve.
Katherine Saville founded Cancer Support Netherlands after facing two diagnoses of HER2-positive breast cancer, including a stage 4 metastatic recurrence. Her experience navigating cancer in a foreign healthcare system revealed a critical gap: the lack of culturally sensitive, community-based support for people from diverse backgrounds.
Determined to change that, Katherine launched a movement grounded in empathy, peer connection, and lived experience, with the bold vision that no one should face cancer alone in the Netherlands.
Katherine brings over 20 years of experience as an English-qualified solicitor in the financial services industry. Her leadership combines strategic clarity with deep compassion, helping to shape a growing, community-led organization that advocates for inclusive care and systemic change.
Theory of change
By shaping our work through the lived experiences of people affected by cancer — including those from diverse backgrounds — we provide peer-led support, build strong community connections, and advocate for a more inclusive and equitable healthcare system. Through this combined approach, we aim to improve individual wellbeing while driving systemic change.
Our Theory of Change sets out the social impact we aim to achieve; and how we plan to measure it. To ensure we're delivering on our mission, we use both qualitative and quantitative research to track progress, capturing personal stories, community feedback, and measurable outcomes that reflect real-world impact.
